Fernando Otero retorna en 2017 con su nuevo álbum titulado Solo Buenos Aires , al igual que el resto de sus producciones discográficas, basado en la música de su ciudad natal, Buenos Aires.
En este proyecto Otero se reconecta con la forma canción, con vocales desempeñando el rol principal en la interpretación de obras clásicas del repertorio popular argentino. arregladas para orquesta y otros diferentes ensambles.
El álbum encuadra todas las facetas artísticas de Otero, como vocalista, multi-instrumentista, compositor, director y arreglista. Grabado en New York, con sesiones adicionales en Argentina, Inglaterra y Venezuela, Solo Buenos Aires reúne numerosos artistas invitados y una amplia variedad de texturas ofreciendo grandes bloques orquestales - intrepretadas por la New York State Symphony Orchestra, dirigida por Otero - y atmósferas mas intimistas.
Solo Buenos Aires abarca una colección de canciones escritas en los 20’s, 30’s y 40’s, excepto Cafe La Humedad -un duo de Otero con Alejandro Lerner- escrito por Cacho Castaña en 1973 y Memorias Quietas, compuesta por Otero en los 90’s.
La lista de autores incluye a Carlos Gardel, Mariano Mores, Enrique Santos Discépolo y Virgilio Expósito, todos íconos de la música popular argentina.
This latest album, as is customary for Fernando Otero, is based on the music of his native land, Buenos Aires.
In this project he reconnects with the song form, with lyrics and vocals playing a main role.
Solo Buenos Aires comprises a collection of songs written in the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s, except Cafe La Humedad -a duet with Alejandro Lerner- written by Cacho Castaña in 1973 and Memorias Quietas, composed in the early 90’s by Otero.
The list of songwriters includes Carlos Gardel, Mariano Mores, Enrique Santos Discépolo and Virgilio Expósito, all of them iconic figures of the Argentine popular music repertoire.
Recorded mainly in New York with additional sessions in Argentina, England and Venezuela, this production features numerous guest artists, orchestral arrangements and a wide palette of colors in terms of instrumentation, shifting from thick, "wall of sound" textures to more modest, intimate atmospheres.
Fernando Otero is a GRAMMY®-winning Argentine composer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist based in New York City.
His first contact with music was receiving vocal lessons from his mother Elsa Marval—an internationally acclaimed singer and actress—and started taking piano lessons at age five. He also studied the guitar, bass, drums, and later composition with Domingo Marafiotti.
Shortly after moving to the US in the 1990’s he worked with correspondingly diverse collaborators including Paquito D’Rivera, the Kronos Quartet, Quincy Jones, and Eddie Gómez—who in 2005 introduced Otero as one of the great pianists of a new generation. Otero has scored the soundtracks for numerous movies, including Sin Palabras, DD is Dead, Unloosened and Root, A Strange Turn, and Franketienne.
Otero has recorded 16 albums as a solo artist and performs more than 50 international concerts yearly. His works are published by Warner Chappell Music and his albums have been released by Nonesuch Records, Warner Music, Harmonia Mundi and World Village.
